Security cooperation with Malaysia to be strengthened: PM
New Delhi,23 November: Reiterating the need for a global fight against terrorism, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said defence and security cooperation with Malaysia will be made stronger. Prime minister attended the 13th ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations)-India Summit on Saturday and the 10th East Asia Summit on Sunday. Addressing a joint press conference here with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, Modi said: “I am particularly grateful to you (Razak) for our security cooperation. It underlines our shared commitment to deal with our security challenges. We will continue to deepen our cooperation in this area”. “We will also make our defence cooperation stronger, including for advancing maritime security and strengthening disaster response in our region.” We will do more in terms of level and complexity of exercises and collaboration in training and defence equipment, Modi said.
He said,”As our lives get more networked, this is emerging as one of the most serious concerns of our age.” Commending Malaysia’s competence in infrastructure, Modi expressed his desire to see enhanced Malaysian participation in areas such as expansion and upgrading of infrastructure, Make in India, and Smart Cities projects. At the same time, Modi said he wanted to raise the level of Indian presence in the Malaysian economy. Earlier, Modi was accorded a ceremonial welcome here as he entered the bilateral phase of his visit to Malaysia, the third day of his visit to this Southeast Asian nation.
