Odd and even,a challenge for transport dept
New Delhi,8 December: To curb pollution and to implement the odd/even cars plan, Delhi government is planning to buy more buses and also seeking extention of timings of Delhi Metro, but sources in Delhi metro said they are not sure of extending the time. With the metro already experiencing heavy crowd, they said, “Constraints will be definitely there in extending the time. Still we are trying to find out the possibilities,” said the source. The official said that it will be too early to jump on any conclusion.
“Talks have started and we will have to wait to know the final decision,” said the official. Delhi Metro’s total network length is 213 kms with 160 stations and ridership of 26 lakh passengers everyday. Not just DMRC, the transport department too has expressed its helplessness in implementing the the decision due to inadequate number of buses, autos and taxis. A transport department official said with insufficient staff, it will be tough to execute the decision. “Let’s see if we can approach traffic police for their cooperation. It is difficult for the DTC to ply more buses suddenly,” said he. With scarcity of buses and the global tenders for mini buses still a distant dream, it will be difficult task for the transport authorities to implement the decision.
