Safai Karamchari on strike from 6th January
New Delhi,25 December: About a dozen safai karamcharis’ unions have joined hands to take on the AAP Government for its alleged failure to deliver on a host of their demands. These unions have decided to protest outside the residence of Kejriwal on January 6. “A massive demonstration will be held outside his residence from 11 am to 5 pm on January 6,” said former MLA and senior Delhi Congress leader Jai Kishan, who was unanimously declared as the leader of the joint front of unions on Thursday.
We will give 10 days to the Chief Minister to address all our issues. If he fails, we will launch a massive agitation across the Capital, he added. These bodies represent a large section of sweepers, doctors, nurses, teachers, professors and other Government employees. Their major demand is the release of their salaries and pension of widows and retired staffers. Jai Kishan said there is a long list of safai karamcharis who have not been regularised. “Many posts for SC/ST and other OBCs were lying vacant in different departments. Even the Government was taking back land allotted it by the Congress Government to the poor.” Jai Kishan said the joint front was going to take its fight for the poor to the logical end. “We will be devising our strategy for agitation this week only,” he added. Among the key bodies which have forged alliance are Ambedkar Veer Sena, Valmiki Youth Front, Turbatnath Veer Sena, Prajapati Mahasabha, Valmiki Sarpanch Committee, Joint Front of the MCD Union and SC/ST Teachers’ Front.
