New Delhi,18 December: The city on Wednesday experienced its coldest day of the season so far with the mercury dipping to 5.2 degrees Celsius, three notches below average. On Thursday, Delhi residents continued to experience severe cold wave conditions as icy winds swept the national capital and the minimum temperature again dipped to 5.4 degrees Celsius. Group of more than 45 homeless families living in the heart of the Capital in Connaught Place who have been sleeping under the open sky are battling the bone-chilling cold. Homeless people who live in Connaught Place area claimed that more than 45 families sleep under the open sky on winter nights as they find the streets safer than shelter homes. Homeless people living in Hanuman Mandir area have formulated about the number of families sleeping in the night. Showing this data to The Statesman, homeless people claimed that more than 45 families slept every night. Of these five families do not have any blankets and rest of the families have tattered blankets. Homeless people said another problem with the shelters was that most of the occupants are drug addicts and alcoholics. They said young girls cannot be taken to a place that houses drunken people.
